READ MOREThe Certified Public Manager® Program is designed to prepare California's public leaders to lead organizations in complex, highly-charged political environments. In addition, the program provides public agencies with the means to meet their succession planning goals through the professional development of their managers. The 200-hour program is comprised of six 2-day modules over the course of a year. A unique element of the CPM program is the requirement for participants to complete a major work-related project under the guidance of a sponsor from their home organization.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:
Participants who complete the program will receive a credential recognized by the National Certified Public Manager® Consortium and receive 10 units of UCSD Extension credit.
Pre-Work: The Public Management Academy is a prerequisite to the CPM
Back To Top Current OfferingsThe Public Management Academy (also known as the Regional Management Academy), is a thought-provoking and challenging program which develops an esprit de corps among graduates and creates a critical mass of public leaders who look more deeply at their responsibilities from an organization-wide perspective. The academy is built on 17 competencies found to be critical for leaders to succeed in public organizations. It features robust learning modules, assessment instruments, application exercises, expert faculty and participant project teams. A sample of the topics include:
Pre-Work: Participants complete a 360 Competency Instrument (together with their supervisor, peers and direct reports) prior to the Academy, to assess the participant's current levels of performance on the 17 competencies around which this program is built.
The academy is 8 days and participants receive 6 units UCSD Extension credit.

The S.T.A.R.T. Program is intended for individuals who are about to, or who have recently become supervisors. This two-day program addresses:
The Supervisors Academy is geared to first and second line supervisors and those who also lead front- line employees. This Academy is five to seven days, depending on the organization's needs. The sessions focus on the changing role of supervisors and on skill building in the areas of team development, performance management, coaching and counseling, conflict resolution and communication, and managing diversity.
The program is interactive, combining lecturettes and best practices models, group discussion, team activities, videos and critical thinking exercises.
An additional feature of our in-house Supervisors Academy is a series of presentations by in-house experts in the areas of budget and finance, human resources, support services, labor relations and topical organizational themes/issues.
Back To Top Current OfferingsThis Academy was developed based on input from executive secretaries, administrative assistants, clerical assistants, and chief executives in several organizations. It has been successfully pilot-tested in a large and medium sized organization. The Academy varies in length depending on whether it is conducted regionally or in-house.
The curriculum includes presentations and group activities on the following topics: the changing role of the Office Professional; understanding interpersonal style differences; creating a positive image; service orientation; organizational savvy; characteristics of high performing teams; writing, proofing and editing lab; career management; communication skills; and negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Back To Top Current OfferingsWith the exception of the Certified Public Manager Program, most of the content presented in our academies is also offered as a stand-alone presentation or as part of a tailored in-house academy or series
Upon request, The Centre can put together a unique, in-house Academy for a client organization. The content will include core curricula from our other academies and specific organizational content unique to the client, such as presentations from in-house experts on budget, human resources, labor relations, and timely issues of importance to the organization.
