This program achieves results through education, building readiness, increasing resource awareness, and empowering staff.
Creating a Victim Centric Approach to Reducing Sexual Assault Evidence Backlogs
The San Diego Police Department is working to achieve a victim-centric approach to reducing historical sexual assault evidence backlogs. Our goal is to convene a working group representing the stakeholders in this important mission. The stated mission is to determine, based upon the input of working group members, which cases should be tested, based upon the perceived wishes of the victim. The goal is to have developed policies allowing us to appropriately evaluate cases going forward, ensuring victims’ rights are at the forefront of our decision-making process.
